Anti-Gun Supreme Court Pick - NRA Stands Back
(Printable {PDF} version here) |
"NRA has
reviewed Judge Sotomayor's Second Amendment record
and, like you, we have serious concerns about her
views. Out of respect for the confirmation process,
NRA has not yet announced an official position on
Judge Sotomayor's nomination." - From NRA-ILA official
position
ASK THEM TO TAKE STRONGER POSITION
As we told you earlier, Sen. Kay Hagan is pleased with
the choice of anti-gun Judge Sonia Sotomayor. And as
quoted above, the NRA is concerned, however; they
choose to do nothing. The question is why.
Why does the NRA choose to respect the confirmation
process of a judge who opposes every freedom they
profess to defend?
If the NRA wishes to be the leaders in the gun rights
movement they portray themselves as, now would be a
good time for them to show it.
While, it may be a little late for them to actually
lead on this subject - as they are practically the
only known Second Amendment organization who has not
spoken out against confirmation of Sotomayor
- their help is certainly needed. Why do they choose
to stay out of the game?
As we let you know even NRA past president Sandy
Froman - along with some other NRA insiders - is
breaking ranks with the official NRA wait and see on
the sidelines approach. Why will NRA-ILA not fall in
behind her lead?
There is concern that Sotomayor may adopt the tested
and verified Obama tactic of painting herself as a
Second Amendment supporter.
NRA's high profile would be invaluable in preventing
any such myth from forming. Remember to most in the
public, what you say trumps what you do. What has she
done?
* She has spoken out against the Heller decision in
which the Supreme Court recognized the individual
right to Keep and Bear Arms.
* Expressed disdain for private gun ownership dating
back to her senior thesis at Princeton University,
where she wrote that America has a "deadly obsession"
with guns and that the Second Amendment does not
guarantee an individual right to firearms ownership.
* In United States v. Sanchez-Villar, she stated that
"the right to possess a gun is clearly not a
fundamental right." In addition to her record opposing
the Second Amendment, she has also strongly advocated
judicial activism.
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED
* CALL NRA-ILA and ask them why they are not helping
