Dear Gun Rights Supporter:

Grass Roots North Carolina recently warned that billionaire and anti-gun zealot Michael Bloomberg has his sights set on repealing North Carolina’s new Castle Doctrine law. Not coincidentally, a bill to do just that has been introduced in the NC House.

The bill to repeal Castle Doctrine is HB 1192, sponsored by no fewer than 14 anti-gun NC House representatives, including three members of Democrat leadership.

Make no mistake: The same media that rushed to convict George Zimmerman will give the bill their full support, as the Raleigh “News & Observer” recently did when it ran this headline: “Group asks NC lawmakers to repeal ‘shoot first’ law.” The piece went on to laud Bloomberg’s latest group:  “Second Chance: A National Campaign to Reform ‘Shoot First’ Laws.”

The N&O liked that “shoot first” mischaracterization of the Castle Doctrine bill GRNC passed last year, parroting it immediately in the second paragraph.

Although “Second Chance” and “Shoot First Laws” are Bloomberg’s latest rhetoric against gun rights, what he’s really looking for is a “second chance” for you to die first!

Worse, it is increasingly likely that in November, the Bloomberg machine will target pro-gun legislators who voted for Castle Doctrine.

Help defend Castle Doctrine

I need your help to make the attempt to repeal Castle Doctrine so radioactive that nobody in the legislature will even think of supporting the bill. And here is how you can do it:

• Contact sponsors and cosponsors of HB 1192 and deliver a clear message that Castle Doctrine is already saving lives, and that you will not tolerate attacks on the law. Use the copy-&-paste list below.

What do a Charlotte firefighter, a 14-year-old boy and his 17-year-old sister, a Robeson County man, a Charlotte Iraq War veteran, and a Jacksonville U.S. Marine all have in common?

Each had no choice but to use deadly force in defense of themselves or their families since enactment of North Carolina’s Castle Doctrine law, and each was protected from malicious litigation or prosecution.

The bill you are sponsoring, HB 1192: “Amend Castle Doctrine/Repeal Stand Ground” would repeal a law that is already saving lives. Moreover, I defy you to produce a single case in which North Carolina’s “Castle Doctrine” or “Stand Your Ground” provisions have been misused.

I strongly urge you to withdraw support from the bill, and will be monitoring your actions via Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.
