Tell Feds To Prosecute Couric |
Katie Couric’s production team got themselves in further hot water recently. After apologizing for her anti-gun hit piece “Under the Gun” featuring agenda-driven editing of an interview with members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), Couric’s director Stephanie Soechtig admitted in an interview to being involved in a conspiracy to violate Federal gun laws.
Legal? Not so much.
During a video promoting the film’s release Soechtig stated she instructed one of her producers Josh Kunau to cross state lines from Colorado to Arizona and make several gun purchases. While incorrectly stating these purchases were “legal,” Soechtig showed her ignorance of Federal law, which requires all interstate purchasers to undergo a background check.
So Kunau either deliberately misrepresented his state of residence, or he omitted that fact to the seller. Either way it was illegal for him to then bring those firearms back to Colorado without undergoing a background check through a licensed dealer: 18 U.S. Code § 922 - Unlawful acts
In addition, it has been reported that a Bushmaster AR-15 was among the guns purchased. Modern Sporting Rifles are further regulated on Colorado’s laws regarding magazine capacity. (Colorado Statute 18-12-302. Large-Capacity Magazines Prohibited - Penalties - Exceptions. (1) (a) except as otherwise provided in this section, on and after July 1,2013, a person who sells, transfers, or possesses a large-capacity magazine commits a class 2 misdemeanor.)

It has come to my attention that several members of Katie Couric’s production crew violated Federal gun laws by purchasing guns in Arizona and illegally transporting them back to Colorado. Her director Stephanie Soechtig admitted in a video promoting an upcoming documentary that she colluded with one of her producers Joshua Kunau to illegally purchase and transport firearms across state lines without undergoing a background check.
I am urging you to investigate this matter and, if the evidence supports it, charge and prosecute Ms. Soechtig, Mr. Kunau and Ms. Couric.
