NC HOUSE: ANTI-GUN LOBBYISTS &
CRITICAL VOTE THIS WEEK

Late night budget session stole the stage last week. . .

You may have heard that the NC House burned the midnight oil on Friday in order to wrap up budget negotiations. Unfortunately, this accomplishment caused other bills to be pushed from Friday's calendar.

Although the omnibus gun bill did not receive its anticipated vote on Friday, it is expected to receive a floor vote this week.

Big-buck, Anti-gun Lobbyists Descend on Raleigh
While grass roots gun owners like you are busy making a living, paid lobbyists hired by a New York billionaire, pushing for New York-style gun control, are working behind the scenes in our legislature.  It's true, we now know that anti-gun astroturf groups, funded by Michael Bloomberg, employ lobbyists in our state capital. We can only guess what these lobbyists are whispering in the ears of our Representatives, but we can be sure Bloomberg's minions are not pushing to advance your rights.

In a perfect world, it would never be the case, but in the world we live in, well-funded anti-gun lobbyists may be enough to make some Representatives go weak-kneed on gun rights. For this reason, now more than ever, we need to remind our representatives who the actual voters are, and remind them that we're not kidding.

And make no mistake, it doesn't matter if they come from a paid lobbyist or just a week-kneed Republican, GRNC will oppose ANY weakening amendments to this gun bill. We will insist that House members vote against anything that waters down this pro-gun legislation, and we’ll be keeping tabs on who does what.

The Next Step
Last week's victory in committee was great news, but we need to keep reminding legislators that voters are serious about their right to keep and bear arms. Let’s keep the pressure on,
and remind Republicans "who brung 'em to the dance." It's important that the omnibus gun bill receives an up/down vote in the NC House this week, and an affirmative vote at that. Below, see how you can easily email House Republicans to do just that. Before you know it we’ll have constitutional carry here in North Carolina!

INCIDENTALLY. . .
Have you had the issuance of a concealed handgun permit delayed by the sheriff's office?

Were you victimized or otherwise negatively impacted while waiting for the overdue permit?

If so, please contact us at: DirectorOfDevelopment@GRNC.org as soon as possible.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • EMAIL NC HOUSE REPUBLICANS:  Use the copy/paste email list(s) below, and the copy/paste text under ‘Deliver This Message.’
With paid, anti-gun lobbyists now working in Raleigh to thwart your Natural rights, it is more important than ever for you to keep in touch with your Representatives.

  • SHOULD YOU BE INTERESTED, YOU CAN CONTACT THESE LOBBYISTS WHO ARE ATTACKING YOUR RIGHTS: You may want to let them know that the citizens of North Carolina will be keeping their gun rights, and restoring those rights that have been oppressed. It may be best if they were to head back to New York, and report to their boss, "No joy on gun control in North Carolina."

Suggested Subject:

"Vote 'YES' on Omnibus Gun Bill without Weakening"

Dear Representative:

I understand that a vote on the omnibus gun rights had to be postponed last week due to late-night budget negotiations. That is disappointing, but I also understand the bill will be brought to the floor for a vote this week. That's good news.

I am writing today to ask you to vote ‘Yes’ on this bill on the House floor, and to vote ‘No’ on any weakening amendments. The right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental human right, and North Carolinians are finally making headway in rolling back the oppressive erosion of this right that has taken place in recent decades. Let’s keep that freedom trend going!

On that same note, I would also remind you that strong support for “constitutional carry” is an explicit part of the Republican Party’s 2016 platform (see page 12), just as gun rights in general are. With this fact at the forefront, I can see no reason for any Republican to shy away from supporting this gun-rights legislation. In fact, among other things, pro-Second Amendment policy is precisely what voters had in mind when they chose you as their representative.

For reasons that are quite clear, voters expect you to support this bill, and to support it without weakening amendments. Please do so.

I’ll be eagerly awaiting more news on this topic from Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Respectfully,
