SUPPORT THE SCHOOL SELF-DEFENSE ACT

Children will only be safe when adults are permitted to protect them …

We finally have a practical and effective solution that will protect our children instead of taking away their liberty. It is very important that you email AND call (especially Monday morning at 9:00 AM) your legislators to urge them to give this legislation a fair hearing.

"The choice will be to protect school children while protecting individual liberties or to pass gun control that purports to protect children, but will actually do nothing for school safety and everything to restrict your individual freedoms."

We need your voice in opposition to those working against your liberty and your rights. Those who would deprive you of those rights have introduced no less than 4 major control initiatives in this session, including a California-style gun ban which would ban most handguns sold in the state.

This bill, sponsored by Representatives Mark Brody, John Blust, George Cleveland, Larry Pittman and Michael Speciale, would allow certain members of the school faculty or staff to carry a handgun on school grounds to respond quickly to acts of violence and imminent threats of violence.

Finally, a few courageous legislators are stepping outside of the circular rhetoric and are proposing a practical and effective solution that will actually protect the children.

Dear Speaker Moore and Chairman Lewis:

I am writing today to strongly urge you to support the school Self-Defense Act (HB 1039). Adults protecting the children is far more effective than simply demanding the destruction of our liberty and the confiscation of our guns. We do not have time to waste with “solutions” that only serve to deprive the law-abiding of the ability to defend themselves and our children.

The same deterrence effect that has helped lower the crime rate will have the same results in schools. A potential shooter won’t know which school personnel are armed, disrupting their often carefully laid plans.

The deterrence effect of armed adults will do far more than the futility of making everything a “gun-free” zone. Those only work with criminals who obey the law.

For the lives of our children, time is of the essence here. Please do not position yourself as the one standing between school children and their safety. Rather, make sure the School Self-Defense Act receives a hearing immediately. NC Parents and Teachers need this, school children need it even more, and that's why I'm insisting on it.
