Gun Rights Supporters:

As you may know, on March 24 we won a historic victory by overriding anti-gun Governor Roy Cooper’s veto to pass Senate Bill 41, which immediately repealed our Jim Crow-era pistol purchase permit system and, effective July 1, 2023, will expand concealed carry into churches which sponsor schools.

On the other hand, North Carolina just fell into the minority of states without permitless or “constitutional” carry as Florida just became the 26^th state to adopt that law.

Next stop, constitutional carry

 In coming days, GRNC will begin turning up the heat for House Bill 189, the “NC Constitutional Carry Act,” sponsored by Representatives Keith Kidwell (R-Beaufort, Dare, Hyde, Pamlico, GRNC ****), Jay Adams (R-Catawba, ****), Ben Moss (R-Moore, Richmond, ****),

and Mark Pless (R-Haywood, Madison, ****). We will need you to pour emails and calls into the General Assembly just as you did to pass SB 41.

Threats still loom large

Despite our victory, however, your Second Amendment rights are still in peril. Even beyond the abuses of the Biden administration, North Carolina gun ban leftists are becoming increasingly desperate and unhinged.

Just days after we passed SB 41, Senators Sydney Batch (D-Wake, GRNC 0-star), Michael Garrett (D-Guilford, 0-star) and Mary Wills Bode (D-Granville, Wake, 0-star) introduced SB 496, a truly draconian gun control bill which would:

• Restore the pistol purchase permit system we just repealed, but under the auspices of the State Bureau of Investigation;
• Create universal gun registration (aka “Universal Background Checks”);
• Require you to lock up guns, making them unavailable for self-defense;
• Make YOU a felon is a gun if stolen from you and misused; and
• Create “red flag” gun confiscation orders, denying you a hearing before your guns are taken

Just one election away…

On Sunday, when Tom Gresham had me as a guest on his nationally syndicated “Gun Talk Radio,” he asked me how we had won the battle to pass SB 41.

My answer was that we passed SB 41 by winning the 2022 elections, securing the “Red Wave” that other states failed to produce.

There is, however, a dangerous corollary to that. Namely that, as 2020 demonstrated, at any given time we are only one election away from losing our rights.

That is why I am asking for your support. Many of you have given generously, for which I am deeply grateful. But we need to make Grass Roots North Carolina still larger and more powerful to ensure we don’t lose that election.
