A MESSAGE FROM JOHN LOTT

FROM JOHN LOTT: ABOUT THE
CRIME PREVENTION RESEARCH CENTER

Dear GRNC Supporter:

We had a very busy start to 2019. Red Flag Laws are in the spotlight this year, and they strike at the very heart of issues such as due process by allowing the government to take away people’s guns without so much as a hearing. The law now exists in 12 states and is like something from out of the Tom Cruise movie “Minority Report,” where people are arrested for crimes that they have yet to commit. Now, the government will be able to disarm people on the suspicion that they are dangerous

We released a new study looking at murders and other violent crimes, suicides, and deaths from mass public shootings for data up through 2017, but we find NO evidence that these laws save lives. Advocates overlook the fact that these laws may discourage unstable individuals from seeking help, for fear of being sanctioned. Below is also a general discussion of other problems with these laws.

I also published an article in the Journal of Health Behavior Research that provides an overview of the arguments for getting rid of gun-free zones at schools and arming teachers.

On television, one particularly useful appearance was on The Young Turks where I debated Cenk Uygur, a leftist who is very well known to young people around the country. The debate played on their national TV channel and is available on YouTube. I think that you all will enjoy that discussion. I also had appearances on two different Fox Nation TV shows and News Max TV. One of the Fox appearances involved a debate with former New York City police commissioner Ray Kelly over universal background checks.

With BuzzFeed in the news, an op-ed that I had at Fox News delves a little into the background of the company’s CEO, Jonah Peretti, who stole my identity in 2003 as a way of lobbying for gun control. My other op-eds have covered everything from gun control in New Hampshire and Pittsburgh to our research on crime by illegal aliens to dramatic moves to let people defend themselves with guns in Brazil.

If you are interested in subscribing to our emails in the future, please sign up HERE. Given all the misinformation in the media about guns, it is important to us that we get this research and information out to as many people as possible. If you can please encourage others to do so as well.
