US House District 4 (R) revision for late survey: In what is the most Democrat district in NC (D+16), perennial anti-gun Democrat David Price retired, but with no less than 8 0-star Democrats vying to replace him, things in the district are not likely to improve. That said, in the race for the Republican nomination,  both Courtney Geels (GRNC survey: 95%, ****) and Robert Thomas (GRNC survey: 98%, ****) received 4-star evaluations based on surveys. Accordingly, GRNC-PVF makes no recommendation in this race.

This year, in addition to legislative races, GRNC surveyed sheriff candidates in several counties, principally counties in which sheriffs are delaying pistol purchase permits and concealed handgun permits. Although survey response rates by sheriff candidates were relatively low, GRNC-PVF is prepared to make recommendations in three counties. Below you will see a table with survey scores and star evaluations.

Buncombe: GRNC-PVF recommends voting for ADRIAN (AJ) FOX (survey: 84%, ***) in the Republican primary.

Burke: Neither candidate returned the survey. GRNC-PVF has no recommendation.

Haywood: In the Republican primary, GRNC-PVF recommends WILLIAM (BILL) WILKE (survey: 99%, ****) over Robert (Tony) Cope (survey: NR, 0-star) and Jason Hughes (survey: NR, 0-star).

Mecklenburg: In this county, where GRNC is suing Sheriff Garry McFadden over his refusal to issue pistol permits within the time period stipulated by statute, no Republicans filed to run, and no Democrat returned the survey. Regardless, if voting in the Democrat primary, GRNC-PVF recommends you do NOT vote for McFadden.

Macon: No sheriff candidates returned the survey in this county. GRNC-PVF has no recommendation.

Wake: In this county, where Gerald Baker has consistently attempted to delay pistol purchase permits and concealed handgun permits, GRNC-PVF recommends you vote for DONNIE HARRISON (survey: 79%, **) over David Blackwelder (survey: 100%, ****) and Tivon Howard (survey: NR, 0-star) in the Republican primary. Although Harrison scored a mediocre 79% on his survey, in his previous service as sheriff, permits were issued in a timely fashion and, frankly, Baker has got to go.
