GRNC Alert: Stop Pitt Co. Shooting Ban Now!

Regardless of where you live, GRNC needs you to immediately CALL & EMAIL Pitt County Commissioners and demand that they stop efforts to restrict shooting on private property. This malicious ban on shooting is a contagion that could spread to other counties and must be stopped.

Pitt Co. is witnessing a perfect storm in which an incompetent sheriff refuses to enforce the existing noise ordinance, leading meddling county commissars to “do something” about it by restricting YOUR rights.

Far from just banning shooting at night, the proposed Pitt Co. ordinance would re-define “shooting range” to encompass nearly any lawful citizen shooting on private property, thereby subjecting them to existing “shooting range” restrictions and a labyrinth of complicated rules and ordinances, and making it nearly impossible to shoot on their own land.

Notably, under Pitt Co. Ordinance No. 9, a “shooting range” must have a permit, can operate only between sunrise and sunset, and must carry $500,000 in liability insurance.

In yet another demonstration of meddling bureaucrats’ idiocy, when faced with opposition, Pitt Co. Commissioners now propose to exempt “licensed” firearms instructors, blithely ignorant that no such “licensing” system exists.

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

(Suggested subject: “Oppose ‘Discharge of Firearms Ordinance’”)

Pitt County Commissioners:

I strongly urge you to oppose the proposedDischarge of Firearms Ordinance” as a meddling political response to irresponsible activity affecting a very small area of Pitt County. The fact that your sheriff refuses to enforce existing law does not justify restrictions on the ability of lawful citizens to shoot on private property.

By adding “shooting range” restrictions to private property owners simply shooting on their own property, you are nullifying their rights under the Second and Fifth Amendments, and subjecting them to a labyrinth of restrictions they will be unable to meet. Rather than promulgating new laws, Pitt Co. should be enforcing existing law.

Please be aware that I will be closely monitoring your actions through Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Respectfully,

Alex Albright, 749-7974;

Mike Fitzpatrick, 689-6699;
