2024 Election Wrapup

GRNC wishes to thank all who contributed to the GRNC Political Victory Fund either directly or through raffle ticket purchases. You made our victories possible. Winners of the raffle for the Springfield Prodigy and Sig P365 X-Macro Comp were Mark from Watauga County and Michael from Alamance County.

Gun rights supporters:

Congratulations! It is a new day in America.

Thanks to your efforts, we have set back the leftist agenda by at least 4 years, and hopefully 12. As you probably know, not only did “The Indomitable Donald Trump” resoundingly win both North Carolina and the presidency, but Republicans took control of the US Senate. Likewise, you have probably heard that Republican control of the US House also hangs in the balance, with a handful of seats still undecided.

What you might not know is that your efforts might make possible Republican control of the US House. How? By the effort the you and the GRNC Political Victory Fund put into races for the NC Supreme Court and NC Court of Appeals back in 2022.

When Democrats controlled the NC Supreme Court, they threw out districts drawn by the Republican legislature and imposed congressional districts that denied Republicans 3 seats in Congress. But in 2022, after you elected a 4-3 Republican-led NC Supreme Court, justices immediate reversed the previous decision and restored districts drawn by a General Assembly that had been duly elected by NC citizens, thereby sending 3 more Republicans to Congress.

For exactly the same reason, in the 2024 elections you finally got the voter ID law you ratified as an amendment to the NC State Constitution way back in 2018.

The lesson? Judicial races count!

The ‘Robinson Effect’

There’s no other way to say it: Mark Robinson blew his campaign … big time. In addition to putting a political bullseye on his chest with remarks like women “keeping their skirts down,” which the left took great delight in using against Republicans, Robinson made exactly the wrong decision in dealing with media hate. Where Trump leans into it, using negative media to rally support, Robinson tried to hide, refusing to even mention the Second Amendment. Done correctly, he might have survived even the “black Nazi” garbage.

Not only did leftists use vicious ads linking Robinson with others to take down Dan Bishop for Attorney General and Hal Weatherman for Lt. Governor, among others, Republicans note that because Josh Stein knew he had the race won, Democrats could re-allocate millions to down-ballot races.

Federally, we picked up the 3 Congressional seats, sending conservatives Addison McDowell (R-6, ****), Mark Harris (R-8, ****), and Pat Harrigan (R-10, ****) to the US House. We failed to capture District 1, where Laurie Buckhout (R, ****) lost to Don Davis (D, *), but Buckhout was challenging an incumbent in a D+1 district, giving her a distinct disadvantage. As a swing district, GRNC-PVF did automated phone and text alerts into the race.

Judicial races

As in 2022, GRNC-PVF scored a clean sweep of judicial races. It is likely that Jefferson Griffin – long-supported by GRNC-PVF in other races – will now give us a NC Supreme Court led 6-1 by Republicans, ensuring probable conservative control of the Court for a decade or more. (Griffin’s win is close enough that it is being contested.)

Equally, GRNC-PVF focused on all 3 NC Court of Appeals races and mailed for not only Griffin, but also Tom Murry (Seat 12), Valarie Zachary (Seat 14) and Chris Freeman (Seat 15), all of whom won.

General Assembly races

In addition to putting out statewide candidate recommendations, judicial races, and US House District 1, GRNC-PVF focused on 7 NC Senate races and 14 NC House races, many of which will be decided by as few as 38 votes. (Keep that in mind when you hear somebody say, “My vote doesn’t matter.”)

In the Senate, we won 5 of 7 races. In the House, we won 10 of 14. It appears that although Senate Republicans retained a supermajority, when the challenges are done, the House might end up one shy, with 71 Republicans rather than the 72 needed to override Stein’s inevitable vetoes.

GRNC WNC Voter Aid Project

Defying all predictions, voters in disaster-stricken western NC not only came out to vote, raising a collective middle finger to FEMA and the Biden administration their turnout was the highest in the state. GRNC and its non-profit arm, Rights Watch International, helped by first sending $5,000 in relief supplies (thanks to an anonymous donor), and then sending text messages to a list of 28,000 WNC voters with guidance on how they could vote after polling places were relocated.

Gun rights agenda going forward

To those who say we won’t get anything passed because the House is one seat shy of a supermajority, I would note that such was exactly the case last year when we passed the purchase permit repeal. As for GRNC’s legislative agenda, that hasn’t been fully worked out yet, but you can bet that constitutional carry will be at the top of the list.

We have won a reprieve from socialism. We will now begin to reclaim America.

P.S. GRNC spent big on its “Remember in November” project, successfully distributing 150,000 voter guides. Realizing that some of you have made large contributions to our election effort, GRNC’s funding is now at dangerously low levels. If you can help with $250, $125, or even $25, it would be of great help in the upcoming legislative season.
