This just in from the Victim Disarmament Session of
the NC General Assembly

"Crossover" date is this Thursday, May 24. Things will
slow down after that day, so don't let up just yet.
Two of the most ridiculous and dangerous bills in the
NC Senate at the present time are getting hearings at
10:00 am in the Senate Judiciary I committee. We
advised you of the status of these two gems of
rhetorical madness that were both introduced by the
current favorite tool of the North Carolinians
?Against Gun Violence,? Senator Julia Boseman. Here is
a quick refresher of these bills:
SB 466 Absurdities
> It would criminalize the concealed carry of
slingshots, air pistols and even toy guns if they are
?similar in appearance? to a pistol - whatever that
means - whether they are capable of being fired or
not.
> You or your child would be guilty of a Class 2
misdemeanor (first offense) or a Class I FELONY
(second offense) for having a toy pistol, air pistol,
paintball gun or other objects resembling a pistol
concealed ?about his person.? You might want to put
that next Cops and Robbers play date on hold. One of
the kids might put one of those toys in his pocket and
end up in court.
SB 8 - CHILD PREDATOR PROTECTION ACT
This little gem will expand the number
anti-self-defense zones so dramatically that it will
render our concealed handgun law worthless. The new
Victim Disarmament Zones will include:
> Childcare centers, including their PARKING LOTS
(that's right, you couldn't even lock your gun in your
car while you pick up your child from daycare);
> ALL PUBLIC PARKS and the parking lots servicing
them.
> Any public place that could be vaguely construed as
a ?playground,? including even fast food restaurants
such as McDonalds or Burger King, which have
playground areas for children.
HUNTERS: STOP AT MCDONALDS? NOT
TODAY.
For the purposes of this bill playgrounds will include
many McDonalds and their parking lots would now be
prohibited areas. This would include parking areas for
any stores or businesses that share a parking lot with
a daycare center. Does your company have a daycare
center onsite for your little darling? If so, forget
keeping your weapon in your car to protect them from
the ever-increasing carjackings happening on the
streets of our cities. Mr. & Mrs. Storeowner, forget
about protecting yourself or your employees when you
go to make that night deposit after closing.
What about the single mother who wants to take her
kids to a park or a playground? She will do so at the
mercy of those who value the safety of her children
far less than she does. When police stop you for a
traffic infraction you are obligated to inform them if
you are a concealed handgun license holder and make
the presence of a weapon known to the officer. Perhaps
you pull over into a parking lot. What if it is a
parking lot for a daycare center or a playground? Big
oops! You are now required by law to inform the police
that you are violating the law. Let?s not forget, this
includes ALL guns, not just your concealed carry
handguns. So your hunting guns would also serve to
turn you into a criminal. Want to stop at McDonalds on
the way back from a hunt? Not today.
The potential perils of this bill boggle the mind.

Dear Senator:
I am writing to urge you to vote against SB 8, the
"Child Predator Protection Act," and SB 466, the
so-called ?Amend Concealed Weapons Law,? bill.
SB 8 would create so many victim disarmament zones
that parents would be unable to protect their
children, and North Carolina's concealed handgun
statute would be rendered worthless.
SB 466, borders on being silly by pandering to the
irrational fears some have of anything even resembles
a gun. This ridiculous bill would make criminals of
our children with absolutely no positive effect to
society.
There is no more fundamental right than the right of
self-defense in this world. All societies recognize
and respect this right. Also, please remember that the
right to keep and bear arms is one of the few rights
of the people that the U. S. Constitution explicitly
prohibits states from tampering with. I expect you to
vote NO on both of these bills. I will be monitoring
all actions on these matters through Grass Roots North
Carolina.
