GRNC Alert 7-20-13: Republican leaders need to get act together on HB 937!

Republican leaders must buckle-down and get serious about gun rights…

Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger, House Speaker Thom Tillis and Governor McCrory can’t seem to figure-out how to work together to move critical legislation like the ominbus gun bill, HB 937.

Rather than do what they know is right by NC gun owners who are largely responsible for electing them, they are pandering to the NC Sheriff’s Association (NCSA) and NRA who has been trying to butt into state level affairs.

These Republican leaders need to cut-out the political pandering, and get HB 937 negotiated through the Conference Committee and onto Gov. McCrory’s desk. This needs to happen WITHOUT weakening modifications and WITHOUT burdensome expansion of the obsolete pistol permit system.

We have an excellent bill. There has been a clear effort made to address NCSA concerns. The session will end Friday so right now it is do or die: ignore the malcontents and PASS THIS BILL!

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

Email Sen. Berger, Speaker Tillis and Gov. McCrory. CALL THEM MONDAY MORNING at 9 AM. Call until you get through. Tell them:

•    Negotiate the pistol permit issue and move HB 937.

•    This must happen without additional pistol permit-related restrictions.

•    No other weakening changes are acceptable.

•    Prepare to call each leader starting 9 AM Monday.

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

Suggested Subject: Get your act together on HB 937!

Dear Speaker Tillis/President Pro Tem Phil Berger/Governor Pat McCrory:

The lack of direction being demonstrated in handling HB 937, the omnibus gun bill, is disturbing. It is well past time to stop the political pandering and finish negotiating the remaining pistol permit issue.

North Carolina gun owners worked hard to elect conservative leaders to improve Second Amendment freedom in our state. We have come too far to watch progress be stopped by greedy and power-hungry Sheriff’s Association and misguided outside interference from NRA.

You need to approve this bill without additional pistol permit-related restrictions and get it signed into law immediately. You owe this to NC gun owners who are largely responsible for your election. Do not disappoint us.

I will be following progress through Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Respectfully,
