COUNTY BUILDINGS / EMPLOYEES LIBERATED |
A Great Start to 2014
GRNC is thrilled to usher in the New Year by heaping praise upon the commissioners of North Carolina’s Cherokee County. Not only have they repealed the nearly twenty-year-old gun ban that was affecting all county buildings, but the commissioners have made it clear that even county employees are not to be restricted from carrying concealed handguns while working (with proper concealed handgun permits).
While it seems all too popular for governments to endanger their employees and visitors by disarming them, leaving them helpless against the less-than-lawful, Cherokee County has boldly bucked this dangerous trend.
There are still a few buildings where guns will be restricted: the courthouse, schools and the jail, but other than those places, Cherokee County buildings are no longer protection-free zones. Lawfully carried concealed handguns will now be allowed in most county buildings. Nice work Cherokee County!
While No One Was Looking
It’s always encouraging to see common sense dominate the gun debate, but it’s especially reassuring to see it actually acted upon, and by a government entity no less. As gun rights supporters, we spend an awful lot of time scrambling to hold insubordinate politicians’ feet to the fire. It’s not every day that politicians come to the correct, common sense conclusion without major prodding from the citizens. Yet, it has happened in Cherokee County, and the commissioners definitely deserve accolades for doing the right thing, and doing it “while no one was looking.”
Below, you’ll find a copy-paste e-mail address list, and a suggested message you can use, to send a note to the Cherokee County Commissioners. Please join other GRNC supporters in telling them that they did a great thing. We may not have been looking, but we definitely noticed!

Suggested Subject: “Thank You for Supporting Gun Rights!“
Dear Cherokee County Commissioners,
Through an alert from Grass Roots North Carolina, I’ve just learned that the Cherokee County Commission has lifted the long-standing gun ban from its county buildings. This is great news, and I’m writing to thank you for courageously making this common sense change. It is refreshing to see county leaders demonstrate respect for gun rights, and take steps to increase the safety of county employees and visitors in county buildings.
Please know that this positive step taken by the Cherokee County Commission has not gone unnoticed. Thanks again!
Respectfully,
