GRNC Alert 06-02-15 (2): Your Encouragement Still Needed on H562

MHOUSE REPUBLICANS NEED YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT

GRNC has learned that discussions in the NC House, regarding House Bill 562, have continued, and some progress has been made between the two parties. Once again, this is thanks in large part to your help.

However. . .

Among other things, it seems that the Republican Caucus remains unsteady on complete elimination of the Jim Crow-era Pistol Purchase Permit (PPP) system. Instead, they may be considering watering down the current system, rather than a full repeal. The exact language being considered is unknown at this time.

There is no reason the people of North Carolina should see yet another legislative session pass with such an embarrassing relic as the PPP system still in place. Nor should we be forced to accept a version of H562 that is weakened in any area. H562, the “Second Amendment Affirmation Act” ought to live up to its lofty title.

Republicans Should Finish the Job

We are pleased to hear that Speaker Moore and the others involved have made progress on H562. This is a great sign, but in the end, we shouldn’t be happy with half measures when it comes to affirming and strengthening gun rights. The Republicans have a supermajority, and should use that strength, given to them by voters like you, to finish the job.

Below, find a new message you can send to Speaker Moore to let him know you appreciate his efforts, and to encourage him to punch the ball over the goal line. As long as anti-gun principles remain in the law books, freedom is down by four points. A field goal just won’t cut it!

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

CALL AND EMAIL HOUSE SPEAKER TIM MOORE:

If at all possible, make phone calls at 8:30 AM tomorrow (Wednesday). If you can’t call at that time, please make the call when you can: 919-733-3451

Tell the Speaker that you appreciate the progress he and the other Republicans have made, but you are strongly encouraging them to pass a strong version of H562, not a watered down version.

Send the following copy/paste email message to this address: Tim.Moore@ncleg.net

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

Suggested Subject: “Pass the Strongest Version of H562

Dear Speaker Moore:

I understand that the discussions around H562 have recently progressed, and I am very pleased to hear that. I encourage you and the rest of the Republican Caucus to continue to work toward final passage of this important bill.

As reassuring as it is to hear that you’re making progress, I am writing to encourage you to not allow the language of H562 to be weakened. It is critical that the people see an end to the Jim Crow-era once and for all, and the elimination of the repressive and antiquated Pistol Purchase Permit System would accomplish this.

This bill is being referred to as the “Second Amendment Affirmation Act.” I am insisting that the strongest version of this bill be passed, so that H562 lives up to its lofty title.

I will continue to monitor this issue through alerts from Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,
