BOYCOTT KATIE COURIC’S HIT PIECE |
On May 15, Epix aired a Katie Couric movie entitled “Under the Gun” on its cable network. We were presented with yet another hit piece filled with lies being perpetrated by the anti-2nd Amendment community. Along with agenda-driven editing of an interview with members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), Couric elected to completely ignore information from a four-hour interview conducted by the producers with respected gun statistics researcher John Lott.
The movie’s editing bias is being recounted in the mainstream media, with stories on CNN, National Review and the Washington Post. One needs only peruse the web site promoting the movie to see where its anti-gun vitriol emanates. Supporters of the film include the Brady Campaign and Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown group, as well as several other known anti-gun groups.
Shady Editing
In part of the movie, a VCDL group is asked by Couric: “If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?” A prolonged silence was shown following the question. However, in actual fact, her question was immediately answered by one of the VCDL members as evidenced by an audio file published by the Washington Free Beacon.
Couric has publicly supported the editing of the film so one wonders how much more “artistic license” was taken with the actual interview.
Ignoring the Facts
Noted gun statistics researcher John Lott reported he participated in a four-hour interview with one of the film’s producers. According to Director Stephanie Soechtig in an article in The Guardian: “His research has been criticized and largely discredited, and when we went to include it in the film, it felt like unnecessary real estate to put in the film, because we know his research has been debunked many times. We kept going back to the idea that we wanted to reserve the real estate in the film for the responsible gun owners.”
“Debunked?” Lott remains one of the most respected researchers on firearms and while several anti-gun groups have taken exception to his research, none of it has ever been debunked.
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED! |
Immediately email Epix CEO Mark Greenberg and let him know that this type of one-side reporting is unacceptable.
Please submit comments directly to Epix:
Click here to email him and feel free to use the following message:
Dear Mr. Greenberg:
I’d like to express my displeasure with your May 15 airing of the Katie Couric-produced movie “Under the Gun.” This movie is obvious agenda-driven propaganda fueled by inaccuracies and false facts being proliferated by the anti-gun establishment. I urge you to issue a public apology for airing the movie, disavow your network’s involvement with it, as well as looking for ways to include information from John Lott’s four-hour interview, and unedited commentary from the Virginia Citizens Defense League.
It is this type of shady reporting that has in the past brought down entire news organizations, so I urge you take this seriously. I’ll be watching closely to see how you handle this. Should you ignore these simple requests, I will be forced to boycott EPIX.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen
