GRNC Alert 05-28-17 REMINDER: ENCOURAGE NC HOUSE REPUBLICANS

HOUSE REPUBLICANS
MUST HEAR FROM YOU

We’re not there yet …

It continues to look as though the NC House Republicans are putting proper consideration into the omnibus gun bill, which includes constitutional carry and other important gun legislation. This is good news, but as usual, there is no guarantee that legislators will make the right moves without serious encouragement.

GOP Platform Includes Constitutional Carry
It may seem like a never-ending journey, but most would agree that it will be very exciting when constitutional carry becomes the law in our state—it will be well worth all those phone calls and emails. For this reason, we ask that you continue to be part of GRNC’s enormous (and growing) team of pro-freedom activists, and once again email House Republicans and phone select House members to insist they support and vote for pro-gun bills. You can assure them that whatever actions they take, or don’t take on these bills will be remembered. It’s up to them whether remembrance is to their political benefit or to their detriment.

Below, see how you can easily phone and email members of leadership and select swing voters in the NC House. With your encouragement, they can surely be talked into living up to their party’s platform, which specifically includes support for constitutional carry.

Attend a ‘Contingency’ Demonstration
We are quite optimistic, but if gun owners receive the “brush-off” from House Republicans, GRNC is prepared to hold a gun-rights demonstration in Raleigh, this coming Wednesday, May 31, 2017. If you can attend on short notice, please plan to be there, should it be necessary. The demonstration will be during business hours in Raleigh at the General Assembly building.

If you can attend on contingency: please immediately email DirectorofDevelopment@GRNC.org. Use the email subject line “GRNC Demonstration.” This way, we can easily inform you and others of our plans as facts on the ground become clearer.

An Unalienable Right
As the men and women of our military continue to fight for freedoms overseas, we need to continue our fight here in our own backyards.  Their courage and bravery on the ground should be matched by our own courage, bravery and persistence to preserve an unalienable right.

Thomas Jefferson believed government should protect those God-given unalienable rights.  Our General Assembly must protect these rights and it’s up to the GOP to not only protect, but uphold them.  Let’s make sure this happens by taking immediate action below.  May we all have a happy and safe Memorial Day!

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • IMMEDIATELY (TODAY, OR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE), LEAVE A VOICE-MAIL MESSAGE FOR HOUSE LEADERSHIP & THE GOP’S TEPID SWING VOTERS. Use the phone numbers listed below. Yes, we are asking you to make 21 phone calls, but gun owners must make clear what the voters expect. With the script below, it will take just a short time. When leaving a voice-mail, please leave your name, or at least a phone number. We want legislators to hear from you the moment they pick up the phone on Tuesday morning. Use the text below to leave a message:

Hello, this is _____________ and my number is __________. I am calling to make sure the representative knows that I expect [him/her] to support the pro-gun legislation that is currently in committee. Since Constitutional Carry is specifically supported on page 12 of the 2016 Republican Platform, I must insist that all Republican representatives live up to that platform, and support these bills. Republicans have had more than enough time to debate. Time is running out. Do what voters sent you to do by passing the omnibus gun bill now! Thank you.

  • EMAIL NC HOUSE REPUBLICANS. Use the copy/paste email address list(s) below, and the copy paste text under ‘Deliver This Message.’
  • ATTEND GRNC’s ‘CONTINGENCY’ DEMONSTRATION, WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 2017:

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

Suggested Subject:
Pass Omnibus Gun Bill, per 2016 GOP Platform

Dear Representative:

I understand that gun rights legislation is currently under consideration in the NC House. I also understand that for some, support for these bills may be tepid. I am writing today to insist on your full support for these bills. If you already support these bills, I can only hope that you will pass my sentiment on to your colleagues.

You surely agree that there are many reasons to support pro-Second Amendment legislation, legislation like constitutional carry. Not the least of these reasons is that “constitutional carry” is an explicit part of the Republican Party’s 2016 platform (see page 12). With this fact at the forefront, I can see no reason for any Republican to shy away from supporting gun-rights legislation. In fact, among other things, pro-Second Amendment policy is precisely what voters had in mind when they chose you as their representative.

I am encouraged to hear that these important pro-gun bills are in a position to receive committee hearings, yet I am also very concerned because time is running out. If the General Assembly adjourns without passing the omnibus gun bill through both chambers, it means the GOP has failed the voters who sent them to govern. We expect more, and so I encourage you to support these bills, vote for them in committee and on the House floor.

I’ll be eagerly awaiting more news on this topic from Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.
