GRNC Alert: Purchase permit repeal gets hearing Tuesday Feb 14

TIME TO GET RID OF JIM CROW ERA PISTOL PURCHASE PERMITS

AND RESTORE OUR COMMON-SENSE CIVIL RIGHTS

Wouldn’t it be nice to get rid of a relic of the racism of the Jim Crow era that only duplicates efforts and does nothing for safety?

Wouldn’t you also like to be able to defend yourself and your family even though you attend a church that also happens to be a school during the week?

The state legislature currently has two bills under consideration that would finally repeal the Jim Crow era Pistol Purchase Permit SB 40 and protect Religious Meeting Places SB 41.

The News & Observer asked a question a while back:

How do church congregations protect themselves without guns?

We all know the obvious answer that it’s impossible to do so.

Silly signs and rules aren’t going to deter a maniac bent on mass murder, so having a good guy or gal with a gun is the only option.

Some say such things are ‘dangerous’.

So are fire extinguishers, they’re metal containers with chemicals under tremendous pressure that could leak or be misused.
But does anyone suggest that we get rid of them or have ‘Fire extinguisher free zones’?
Of course not!

So, does it make any sense for you to be deprived of your common-sense civil rights for the same reason? Because guns carried by good people are somehow ‘dangerous’?

On Tuesday, February 14th the Senate Judiciary Committee will hear the bill in preparation for securing its Senate chamber floor vote.

We need you to attend the committee meeting to pack the committee room. It is Tuesday at 11:00 in Room 544 of the Legislative OFFICE Building (not the Legislative Building).

Note:  Although the Legislative Building address is 16 W. Jones St., committee hearings are in the Legislative OFFICE Building, which you enter on the 3rd floor.

See the map below for directions for parking, you will need to go through metal detectors to enter the building.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

Contact the Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee via email and direct them to clear SB40 – “Pistol Purchase Permit Repeal” for an immediate vote on the Senate floor.

Suggested Subject: Time to get rid of Jim Crow Era PPP and restore our Common-Sense Civil Rights

Dear Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans:

Isn’t it time to get rid of the Jim Crow-era Pistol Purchase Permits that do nothing for safety and duplicate efforts?

Don’t you think it’s time to restore the people’s common sense civil rights when they happen to worship in a church that is also a school at other times?  The News & Observer made an obvious point in asking:

How do church congregations protect themselves without guns?

Because a good guy or gal with a gun is the only way to stop someone with evil intent.  Silly rules or signs don’t work, so it’s time for you to support the repeal of the Jim Crow era Pistol Purchase Permit SB 40 and protect Religious Meeting Places SB 41, and override Governor Cooper’s vetoes of these common-sense measures

I will be following this matter through GRNC Alerts.

Respectfully,

(Your name)
