Your Input Needed to Pass Firearms Liberty Act |
Thanks to the large Republican majorities you helped elect, the North Carolina General Assembly has so far seen introduction of no fewer than eight pro-gun bills. So far, four have passed either the NC House or NC Senate, keeping them alive beyond the May 4 “crossover deadline” by which a bill must pass at least one chamber in order to remain alive.
HB 101, the “Firearms Liberty Act,” will receive a committee hearing this Tuesday, March 7. The bill is sponsored by Reps. Jay Adams (R-Catawba, GRNC ****), Kelly Hastings (R- Cleveland, Gaston, ****), Keith Kidwell (R- Beaufort, Dare, Hyde, Pamlico, ****) and Carson Smith (R- Onslow, Pender, ****).
The version of the bill to be considered will include relaxed concealed handgun training requirements for expired concealed handgun permits provided the CHP-holder applies within 60 days of expiration; a provision allowing people ordered to surrender firearms under domestic violence (“50B”) restraining orders to store guns with licensed gun dealers rather than sheriffs (who often take poor care of firearms and may charge exorbitant fees); and a provision for a lifetime concealed handgun permit. (Permit-holders would still have the option to renew within 5 years in order to use permits to bypass that National Instant Background Check System.)

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE |
Suggested subject: “Please support HB 101: Firearms Liberty Act”
Judiciary 3 Committee Members:
I strongly urge you to give a favorable report to the Proposed Committee Substitute for HB 101, the “Firearms Liberty Act,” a moderate and logical bill to ease the burdens of concealed handgun permit-holders when renewing permits and to protect the property of those whose firearms are confiscated under “50B” domestic restraining orders. I will be monitoring this issue through Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.
Respectfully
