Gun Rights Supporters:
I have often said that at any given time, we are exactly one election away from losing our Republic. Unfortunately, that was demonstrated more clearly than at any other time in my 68 years, as nationwide the electorate overwhelmingly chose the party of Marxism. Frankly, the only time I’ve seen anything like it was the Republican Revolution of ’94, during which Grass Roots North Carolina was born.
In North Carolina, we lost not only the highly publicized US Senate race, but our Congressional delegation appears to have reversed from ten Republicans and four Democrats to ten Democrats and four Republicans.
Shakeout in NC
We lost not only the “tossup” 1st and 11th Congressional districts, where Don Davis held his seat against Laurie Buckhout and Jennifer Balkcom lost to Jamie Ager, but we also lost Addison McDowell (USH-06), Richard Hudson (USH-09), Brad Knott (USH-03), and Tim Moore (USH-14), all in comfortably Republican districts.
Recounts are likely for Greg Murphy (USH-03), who leads by only 233 votes (with the Libertarian spoiler taking 1.25%) and Virginia Foxx (USH-05), who trails by a grand 99 votes (with the Libertarian spoiler taking 2.64%).
Things are up in the air in the NC General Assembly, but it appears Republicans lost control of the NC House, going from a 71-49 majority to a 49-70-1 (unaffiliated) minority. The NC Senate hangs in the balance with, if we are lucky, a 26-24 Republican majority provided pro-gun Danny Britt (NCS-24) wins a likely recount in which he currently leads by only 268 votes.
The bad news is that we also lost critical judicial races. The good news is that none represent a pickup for Democrats; for now, at least, the NC Supreme Court remains 5-2 in Republican control, and the NC Court of Appeals remains 12-3 in Republican control.
What did GRNC do?
For the occasional keyboard commando who says “GRNC doesn’t do anything,” here are some stats. For this election, GRNC and the GRNC Political Victory Fund put out:
100,000 Remember in November voter guides printed
80,000 Remember in November voter guides mailed directly to gun-owning voters
20,000 Remember in November voter guides shipped by volunteers to gun shops, clubs, and volunteers who agreed to distribute them
139,971 GRNC-PVF automated phone alerts sent into 15 districts
35,025 GRNC-PVF postcard election alerts sent into 11 districts
106,571 GRNC-PVF Peer-to-Peer automated text election alerts sent into 11 districts
What now?
The next step in 2027 will be to prepare the GRNC Legislative Action Team for the gun control which will inevitably be introduced by all the usual suspects – and will almost certainly pass in the NC House – forcing us to play defense in the NC Senate.
The problem we face is that, as GRNC does in every election, we threw everything we had at it. That leaves us with very little money to fight gun control.
Faced with catastrophically low resources, I am forced to again ask you for anything you can donate. Please, please, please go to: grnc.org/wp/2012/06/donate-to-or-join-grnc/
Only with your help can we beat back the kind of losses suffered in Virginia.

P.S. I realize you may already have contributed a lot to help GRNC and our political action committee, GRNC-PVF, in the election. But we truly are at emergency funding levels – something I have never before said. If you can contribute $250, $125, or even $50, it will help us fight gun control in 2027 and beyond.
