ATF Reverses Itself on Common Arm Braces |
The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has apparently violated a letter they issued in 2017, clarifying previous letters to manufacturers. ATF now asserts that some commonly owned Pistol Stabilizing Braces(PSB) including the popular “Honey Badger” magically transform pistols into Short Barreled Rifles(SBR). The 2017 letter clearly states that a PSB would not transform a pistol into a rifle if there was “incidental” use from the shoulder as long as the PSB was not altered to facilitate firing from the shoulder. A SBR would need to be registered with the ATF. Failure to comply would make owners felons that could be imprisoned and fined. ATF has made up secret standards that they use to differentiate a pistol arm brace from a rifle stock.
Beginning June of this year Representative Matt Gaetz has twice sent letters to ATF demanding they stop and desist. However he has yet to get a response. The ATF has ordered the companies that make these arm braces to stop manufacturing what up till now was a legal product and recall those that have been shipped. This makes no sense, and could make owners of these braces into felons, through no fault of their own. Millions of people could face criminal prosecution for possessing what were previously legal arm braces for their pistols.
Enough is enough President Trump has the power to order the ATF to stop making up secret standards. President Trump basically got a pass from pro 2nd Amendment conservatives on his “bump stock ban”. This time we need to stand up and demand he stop the ATF from illegally making secret rules to harass companies and their customers that had previously been told their product was ATF compliant.

I am calling today to tell you to stop the ATF from using secret standards to criminalize what were legal pistol arm braces. Millions of these have been sold. The owners of these braces could potentially be prosecuted.
Tell Acting Director Lombardo to stop this unconstitutional over reach. Gun owners have stood by you through thick and thin, now it is time to support our rights.

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE |
Dear : President Trump,
Stop the ATF from changing rules on a whim to criminalize commonly owned Pistol Arm Braces. ATF is now ruling that some of these devices, which had previously been allowed, create regulated Short Barreled Rifles, this is a legal trap for owners of these.
This not only affects the manufacturers but also the millions of owners, who now could potentially be turned into felons.
Gun owners have stood by you, now you can help us and stop this over reach by ATF.
Tell acting Director Lombardo that her agency must stop this unconstitutional action against manufacturers of Pistol Arm Braces, and potentially their customers.
Respectfully,
