Western NC voters:
Don’t let Helene and FEMA deny your right to vote! Due to extensive destruction in some western NC counties, places for either Early Voting or Election Day voting may have changed.
Below are changes made pursuant to disaster bill HB 149, as well as websites and phone numbers to contact your county board of elections, in order to help you determine how you can make your voice heard in the crucial 2024 elections.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are not currently registered to vote, you may simultaneously register and vote up until Nov. 2 at 3:00 PM. See below for instructions.
Possible modifications of voting sites:
- Substituting Early Voting and Election Day voting sites.
- Removing voting sites that are unusable.
- Adding days that any site is open within the early voting period (deadline: Nov. 2 at 3:00 PM).
- Reducing days that any site is open within the early voting period.
- Extending hours that any site is open on any days within the early voting period.
- Reducing hours that any site is open on any days within the early voting period.
- A transfer of voters from a given precinct to another in the county, even if the receiving precinct is not adjacent if no adjacent precinct is available.
- Establishing a polling place located in another North Carolina county adjacent to your precinct.
Measures to help you vote:
- Absentee ballot submission deadline: Extended to 7:30 PM on Election Day, November 5
- Returning absentee ballots: Voted absentee ballots may be delivered in person by you or your near relative or verifiable legal guardian, by physically handing the voted absentee ballot to an elections official at any of the following:
- Any county board of elections in this State at any time that county board of elections is open.
- Any early voting site at any time that the early voting site is open for voting.
- The State Board of Elections at any time that office is open.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: You or your near relative may request an absentee ballot in person up to 5:00 PM on November 4, 2024 at your county board of elections office.
- Lost or destroyed absentee ballots: Contact your county board of elections for instructions.
- If you are not registered to vote: You may simultaneously register and vote up until the day and time specified by your county board of elections.
