GRNC Alert 10-17-14: Free Police Escorts to be Provided at State Fair

STEP RIGHT UP! GET YOUR ARMED ESCORTS HERE!

Three weeks ago, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler vowed to flout state law and disarm law-abiding citizens at the State Fair. Since then, activist Judge Donald Stephens upheld the commissioner’s decision to ignore the law.

Unfortunately, Troxler and Stephens have teamed up to put NC families at risk by creating a criminal-friendly gun-free zone at the State Fairgrounds. The good news is that the Agriculture Commission’s Chief of Police, Joel Keith, has kindly offered a solution to fair goers who would like to insure their family’s safety as they exit the fair. Chief Keith has stated that, upon request, uniformed police officers will escort fairgoers back to their vehicles.

Click here to see the video of the Chief extending this offer.  (OR: http://www.wral.com/news/video/14084038/). The pertinent portion is around the 37:40 mark. It may be difficult to hear, so below is the text of the question asked by Sean Sorrentino, of NC Gun Blog. The question was addressed to Troxler, but was ultimately answered by Chief Keith:

Mr. Troxler, by actively fighting licensed concealed carry at the State Fair, and by loudly declaring to everyone that no one may carry so much as a can of pepper spray into the fair, haven’t you basically announced to every criminal in North Carolina that if they want easy targets all they need to do is lurk in the parking lots and wait for the people to come to them? . . .

And [Chief Keith], if a person feels unsafe, and wishes to have an escort, will you send an escort with them, anybody who asks?

GRNC strongly recommends that fair goers accept the Chief’s offer to protect and serve the law-abiding citizenry. See the “Immediate Action” section below.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

Upon exiting the State Fair, find the closest uniformed police officer, and request an escort back to your vehicle. If necessary, let the officer know that Department of Agriculture Chief of Police Joel Keith specifically promised that officers would be available for escorts in order to protect fairgoers in the parking lot, a “gun-free zone.”

You can also inform the officer that you wouldn’t be troubling him or her, but your ability to protect your own family was denied by Commissioner Troxler when he instituted a gun ban at the fair.

It is strongly recommended that all individuals and families attending the fair take Chief Keith up on his offer for armed escorts. Generally speaking, it is the fair’s parking lot that is most likely to be unsafe, and particularly after dark. Thanks to Chief Keith, the dangers of a gun-free zone can be mitigated by requesting a police escort.
