GRNC Alert 02-19-15: BATFE to Ban Common Rifle Ammo

OBAMA & BATFE PLAN ‘BACKDOOR’ GUN CONTROL

On Friday, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) announced plans to ban common M855 ball ammunition, which is commonly used in modern sporting rifles. They intend to declare that this ordinary ammunition is not “intended primarily for sporting purposes,” and eliminate its current exemption from “armor piercing” status. (The NRA-ILA has a more detailed explanation here). Suffice to say, the BATFE is trying to ban M855 ammunition as “armor piercing” even though it doesn’t fit Congress’ definition of “armor piercing.”

This devious attempt by the Obama Administration and the BATFE to circumvent Congress and implement “backdoor” gun control is as ominous as it is outrageous. What good is your rifle if you can’t buy the common ammunition it requires?  If they get away with this, what type of ammo will be banned next? How long until it’s impossible to find any ammo at all for commonplace firearms?

After recent failures to pass gun control measures in Congress, it appears that the Administration is looking to flank the Second Amendment, dodge the people’s representatives, and force their anti-gun agenda through the unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats at the BATFE. Separation of powers, our representative form of government, and the Bill of Rights disallow any one Executive or bureaucrat the power to unilaterally establish new laws such as this, and yet they are indeed attempting to get one over on us. This is not acceptable!

Fortunately, there is something you can do to fight this most recent grab at your gun rights. Below, see how you can contact North Carolina’s Congressional Delegation and insist that they contact the Obama Administration and the BATFE to demand an end to this “under-the-radar” anti-gun effort.  Also, the BATFE is accepting comments on this topic until March 16, 2015. Below, see how you can easily send a comment to the BATFE and let them know what you think of their newest gun-grabbing scheme.

Suggested Subject:

Stop the Obama/BATFE Ammunition Ban

Dear Senators and Representatives:

I’ve just learned of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives’ (BATFE) intention to implement a ban on M855 ball ammunition, a commonplace ammunition used in ordinary rifles.

I am outraged to hear that the Obama Administration and the bureaucrats at the BATFE are working together in an attempt to circumvent Congress, snub their noses at the Constitution, and deviously implement “backdoor” gun control. The administration and the unaccountable administrators who would do their bidding have absolutely no legitimate authority to establish restrictive new gun laws, yet they are clearly attempting to do just that. They are wrong, and I am calling on you, as a representative of the people to nip this ominous, under-the-radar action in the bud.

I insist that you contact the Obama Administration and the BATFE today to demand they cease and desist immediately. They should not be attempting to ban common ammunition used in common rifles, nor anything else that would infringe on the Second Amendment.

I’ll me monitoring this issue closely via alerts from Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE TO THE BATFE

Suggested Subject: “No Ban on M855 Ball Ammunition

Dear Ms. Denise Brown:

I’ve just learned of the BATFE’s intention to implement a ban on M855 Ball Ammunition, and I am writing to insist that this not be done.

M855 ball ammunition is common ammunition that has been used for decades in ordinary rifles, for lawful purposes, by Americans from all walks of life. A sudden and arbitrary attempt to ban it will appear to most reasonable people as an effort at “backdoor” gun control, which it most certainly is. I am outraged that the BATFE, along with the Obama Administration, would attempt such a thing, particularly given that M855 does not meet the Congressional standard for “armor-piercing” ammunition.

Creating new laws is the legislature’s domain, not the bureaucracy’s. It is not appropriate for unelected administrators to shape policy and craft regulations, behind the scenes, absent legislative direction from the people’s elected representatives. Even the people’s representatives are restrained by the Second Amendment on topics such as this.

Administrators at the BATFE are not elected, but the politicians who appoint them are. Please keep this in mind as you ponder this ammunition ban. I must demand that you immediately end any consideration of banning M855 ball ammunition.

I will be monitoring this issue via alerts from Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,
